As the knock-out
stages are nearer, now every team goes crazy for we are performing well in the
current ICC World Cup 2015. Does Indians’ switch on ‘Defending Champions’ mode?
From December 2014-January 2015, we haven’t won a single match either it was a
test match or the shorter version in this home-away venue. It was nightmare for
Men in Blue to get out of the critics. Injury-hit team, poor performance, lack
of death bowling, sudden retirement of Captain Cool from Test cricket etc, was
charted down as reasons that India would surely get the axe in this big series
and was considered as joker in the pack.

The million dollar question that is circling through every player and every team is not how Indians are performing so well, instead it reads how are we performing so well with such an under-rated team? What was working? What was planned? What made them so aggressive on the field? The critics were answered by us through centuries and phenomenal bowling.
While other teams staunchly believed in single-player stats, these young guns relied that team work achieves more. The main reason for India’s exceptional performance is the quality experience they got from last December in Australia. Outsiders tried to suppress us by blaming on whatever we lacked, but looking on positive side, Indians had good reading over varying pitches, climatic conditions and especially some of the bench-warmers were waiting in the wings to show who they are!
If noticed on close cut, some individuals gained quality experience in particular venue during the Carlton tri-series and Border- Gavaskar series, which was the key factor for India’s scintillating batting performance in this World cup. The bowling unit was in weak condition during Carlton and Test Series with some injured and some not performing well. But those injured players were learning kids, who learnt the art of delivering in rough Australian conditions and now they are exhibiting their art.
Now six-straight wins proved our mettle. India halted in Australia for past two months (before the start of World Cup), all they were doing in this period were learning and exhibiting. Yes, two good things about this series are it was in Australia which is going to be the venue for upcoming World cup and it was just before the World cup. Every time, eleventh hour preparations wouldn’t bring success but that doesn’t go true for India, as we are marching into quarter-finals undefeated.
To be frank about the quality batting displayed by us, it reads an average of one century per match and every other match has seen some individual rising up to the feet and delivering, it was due to the same members who were retained in the squad who played Carlton series and Border- Gavaskar Series. Now it is not 11 members playing, but 11 bullets loaded in a revolver and is ready to fire at any time. The in-form Dhawan and Rohit were also key factor for India’s throttled batting. Rahane, plays a blissful innings every time, when led to bat. Lose 6 wickets, chill down, Jadeja ,Ashwin , Bhuvanesh and Shami are there. Openers falter, nothing to worry, middle order will rise up, so now batting is so strong that even tail enders are ready to perform even under extreme pressure conditions and all the credit goes to their learning implications from the past. We have travelled all over Australia and above all we know all the nook and corner in Australia.

On the contrary, not only batting that twinkles, also the bowlers who are shining, especially Ashwin who has a controlled line and it is too main-stream to see an offie shining brighter in a fast-bowling condition. The likes of Shami, Bhuvanesh and Umesh gives threat to opponents, especially Mohit fires when India requires. Whether to break partnerships or to control the run flow the fast medium and off spin combo of Ashwin and Mohit works very well which is a good sign for India’s buoyant bowling. When it comes to death bowling, we are on fire as Mohit starts and rest finishes. The handy left-arm spin of ‘Sir’ Jadeja and part-time right-arm off spin of Raina is also useful in the drifting conditions.
Indians basically exhibit physics; they reflect South Africans’ in bowling, picking all 10 wickets in 6 leagues which counts 60 out of 6; refractively bending to various pitches way from Perth to Sydney and out of the curve to Auckland and Hamilton too; turned rectifiers by converting runs into partnerships, maiden overs to crucial wickets; frequency in winning; consistency in plundering victory and ultimately destructing the opponents to the core, now accelerated and geared up for knock outs.
On a lighter note, we had some quality time after the immediate end of Carlton tri-series. Even Captain Cool, terms it as the best period in Australian tour which made the players feel relaxed and get focused on the ICC World Cup 2015. The 10-12 days gap gave the penultimate strategies, playing eleven, field set up, batting line-up and the ultimate exhibition was the six straight scintillating victories in the league stage.
Now, not even the co-hosts Australia had shown good performance in the league stage, they have struggled and got through, but the way we performed has made critics turn into praises and appreciation.
Retrospecting 2013 Champions Trophy, India lifted the Cup without losing a single match in English conditions, but it was the same venue were India was cleansed thoroughly in Test series in 2011, pressure was built but India still proved they are hard and fast contenders, when it comes to big tourney. To coat on, the fans support is tremendous and magnificent to see and that would have made India to feel that they are playing in Mumbai-Wankhede and that was the response given by Indian origins in Australia, whatever it may be, whether the highly expected Indo- Pak match or the against the underdogs UAE, they turned into infinite numbers and that made India- an energetic and refreshed team.

Our march in world cup creates butterflies in other teams’ stomach. Estimations are not always accurate and anything may happen. Look for what, let’s keep fingers crossed, let our men topple the teams coming up, reach the finals, bundle up the Cup to home, so that we need not wait for another 28 years!!!!!!!!!!
